Bikini Open Competitions are held usually in many gay bars. |
I decided to have this blog because I want to have a
Filipino blog that also features male pageants in the Philippines. Missosology
(and recently Sashfactor) have male pageant sections, but it was always
eclipsed by the more popular female beauty pageants like Binibining Pilipinas,
Miss Universe and others.
I think this blog is the
FIRST BLOG that features all-Pinoy male pageant competitions around the
country. However, when I started this blog, I confessed that I regularly
featured male bikini open competitions. In my effort to look for a blog that
takes centerstage the male Filipinos, my facebook account took me to the world
of bikini open. Thus, I have befriended many handsome (and some not so
handsome) hunks.
Today, with the
proliferation of male pageants around the country, I don’t feature bikini open
competitions regularly. I have concentrated more on the descent ones, like the Mister Philippines, Misters of the Philippines, Mister Republic of the Philippines and Mister United Continents Philippines.

While some bikini open
contestants managed to successfully cross over to the superior male pageants in
the Philippines, we can only cite very few success stories. This year, bikini
open veterans Ginoong Filipinas 2008 winner Cepter Al-Miguel Maneclang and Allen
Dizon look-alike Czack Buenafe, despite their bodies-to-die for, were shut down
from the gallery of finalists during the Mister Republic of the Philippines. Mark
Andrew Baron, a cross over from Ginoong Filipinas 2014 to Misters of the Philippines
2014 to Mister United Continents Philippines 2015 came out lucky to be chosen
as the country’s bet to Mister Real Universe 2015 in Guayaquil, Ecuador this
October. But fate remains to be seen for him.

Why do I say so? Because
not all bikini open contestants who managed to represent the country end up
with good modeling careers or other fashion-related opportunies. Remember Jhon
Mark Marcia? He represented us in Men Universe Model 2011 but he went home
without much opportunity. Just few weeks ago, he was back into the bikini open circuit
via Ginoo ni Daragang Magayon bikini open, and he did not even win. William de
Dios is another example. He was handpicked to represent the country in Mister
Campus World in Malaysia. He was first runner up. But it was an almost unheard
victory.

I realized that bikini
open competitions are here to stay. We shall see more candidates criss-crossing
into the male pageant arena, and vice versa. But my concern, at the end of the
day, really is for the pageant organizers to carefully scrutinize their
potential candidates, for in male pageants – we select the representatives of
our country; and for the candidates, to please also sanitize your facebook
accounts and to make sure you have a wholesome online presence.

I agree!
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I am wrong, but I think Neil Perez brought decency into the Male Pageant world here in our country. When he won MOTP and subsequently MI, he somehow increased the standards of male pageantry.
I am not so familiar with how bikini open competitions are conducted, but judging from what I have seen so far, shenanigans behind the scenes could not be discounted. That is precisely why bikini opens are not really highly regarded.
It will probably take a decade more before male pageantry will reach the level of BP, MW and ME... but I trust that we are getting there and as such, 2 organizations are somehow serious about uplifting the level of male pageantry in this country.
Word of caution though to the organizers: please ensure you maintain a level of professionalism and decorum in all your dealings and most especially in cyberspace. Whatever your disagreements with your fellow pageant officials, keep that out of FB and settle that amongst yourselves internally.
Can anyone tell me the brand of the bikini swimwear or where i can buy them thanks
