Misters of Pilipinas 2015 Pre-Screening Tidbits and Reviews

July 5 will be the kick off of the screening for the biggest male pageant in the country, the Misters of Pilipinas, formerly Misters of the Philippines. After the triumphant victory of Neil Perez at the Mister International and the other outstanding performances of our many Mister Philippine representatives in the other male pageant competitions, Filipino handlers from literally all over the world are now searching for the next face of Philippine male pageants.

But before the organizers reveal to us the official list of candidates, here are some “insider’s report.” This is one of the best things being a male pageant blogger. I received inquiries, anecdotes and what-ifs from handlers, organizers, potential candidates -- So, let me give a pre-screening report on the “perceived candidates”, “wannabee candidates” and “franchised candidates.” Can you make a guess kung sinu-sino sila?

1.     A hunky Ilocano is already making waves online for his hot armpits. One netizen even commented, “kilikili pa lang ulam na.” Hmmm…let us see how far his armpits will take him. Clue: he is already a candidate.

2.     A beach hunk from Bohol will show up for the screening. He won Mister University of Bohol few years ago. He is 5’11. I tried to stalk this beach hunk in his facebook account, and I am impressed by his posts: opinionated, he sounds smart, has star quality – not to mention – a lean body that can make heads turn. Paging organizers! Pasado siya sa akin…And oh, maganda ang hairdo ng kanyang handler.

3.     The bet from the Filipino community of Italy looks  very tall in photos. Is it because of his long neck that complements his body frame? He was my ultimate bet during the selection process that was also deluged by equally handsome half-Pinoys and immigrant Filipinos. I can honestly say that this guy can stand mightily proud side by side with taller candidates. But I still have to look into his interaction skills because he looks timid. Better watch out for this guy.

4.     The bet from the Filipino community of Australia looks very handsome and so outgoing. Did I say that he has a very nice set of pearly white teeth. If I based it on photos, he has the best body so far.

5.     Mati City’s bet is another hottie to watch out for. If I am not mistaken, this is the first time for PEPP (the org behind Misters) that they shall have a candidate with this “beach-related credentials.” Remember this, the swimwear competition will be in the very beautiful beach  of Dahican in Mati City, Davao del Norte. I will not be surprised if Mister Mati wins a special award (Mister Physique?), or will go very far in the competition, or even win the right to represent our country. He prepared for this contest, guys. He is well-prepared.

6.      There were feelers that a young man from the political Climaco clan of Zamboanga is joining. No confirmation. But I saw the guy’s photo already. Body-wise, he is above average. He looks very much like Dante Balboa, really. Muy Gwapito. Bagito. Changkito, ay mali, ano ba kasi ang Spanish ng Chunky? (insert big smiley here). Verdict: Pwede.

7.     This guy from Mister Philippines 2014 pageant who crossed over to the Misters of the Philippines 2014 has not confirmed yet if he is joining the Misters of Pilipinas 2015.  If he shows up for the screening, I believe he will make it to the official list of candidates.

8.     Many young and empowered candidates wanted to join this year. But fell short of the height requirement (ouch!). Among them a Mister Mindanao candidate few years ago. Another a bikini contesero who is strikingly handsome and self-confessed well-endowed but only 5’7. Also a provincial winner who was only 5’5 but was surprisingly 5’11 giant on the night he won. Thank you, height enhancer shoes!

9.     This Mister Philippines Earth alumnus told me last year he will join the Misters 2015. I was worried back then because he was still chubby – ahmmm – no, no, he is actually huggable – blame it on his doctorate studies! Few weeks back, he has already a small face and a trimmed body built. Will he be really joining? His last message to me last night: “Parang ayaw ko na sumali sa Misters…” Oh no, don’t be afraid of them boy, the other candidates might also be thinking of the same thing if they know you are joining.

10.             Three models from the most famous modeling agency in Davao will be sent to Manila. Those who are known to them said that the waterloo of these potential candidates is the q and a portion. Oh well, let us first listen to them talking. If all three will make it to the final list of candidates, let us bombard them with questions.

11.            No artista is joining this year.

12.             An insider told me “we shall only have 5 winners. Nakakalungkot there will be many wasted Misters this year.” Reality bites, many are called, but only five are chosen.

13.             Beauty queen maker was rumored to be selecting one or two of his top models to join the Misters 2015. Guys, there is no truth to the rumor. How can I prove it. M.J.G. told me via facebook. Friends kami.

14.             A winner from a franchise of the Misters is in hot waters because many of his kababayans were questioning the decision of the jury because the first runner up seemed to be fit for the title. The winner cannot answer the questions from the personal interviews down to the nerve-wrecking question and answer.

15.             I believe there is a “ healthy and reasonable tension” between the Misters 2015 organizers and their franchised counterparts due to the height requirement. Those who are managing the franchised contests opened their pageant for those below 5’10. That is why, even if no matter how brilliant and impressive a 5’6 candidate is, the title cannot be given to him. The organizers will definitely choose the giants over the dwarves.
