The
casting for the biggest male pageant in the country, the Misters of Pilipinas,
formerly Misters of the Philippines, is still on-going and thus, no final list
of candidates yet.
However,
some of the applicants are already in hot waters the moment they arrived at the
PEPPS office.

Winwin Pineda and Marlon Tuiza |
Take
for example Winwin Pineda of Tarlac and Marlon Tuiza of Batangas. Winwin was Mister Earth Philippines
- Air (equivalent to First Runner Up) and Marlon was Mister Earth Philippines –
Tourism (Equivalent to Fourth Runner up) last year. When I referred to them as “cross-over”
candidates from the Mister Earth Philippines (MEP) 2014, somebody messaged me
and asked me not to mention their titles because they were actually dethroned. I
received at least 3 messages from 3 different people from MEP.
I have a
different take on the issue. I believe these guys won the MEP title fair and
square during the competition. They were dethroned, yes, but that’s between them and the organizers. Should
the reigning MEP titlists (Robin Vale Taylan-Mister Earth Philippines 2014;
Bonn Leonard Belandres- Mister Earth Philippines –Air; Joseph Sanchez - Mister
Earth Philippines – Water; Joey Braian Sastre - Mister Earth Philippines – Fire)
make a sudden cross-over from MEP to PEPPS next year, I will not acknowledge
them as replacements but also winners.
By
the way, Marlon Pasco Tuiza is a doctor of Public Administration of Tanauan
City, Batangas and a professor in college at Masteral level. Winwin Pineda is a graduate of BS Nursing and
currently working in a medical center.

Rolly Oporto |
Another
is Rolly Oporto of Cagayan de Oro, Mister United Continents Top 20 semifinalist
this year. He was supposed to join the Mister of the Universe 2015 in Bogota,
Colombia last month but the pageant was not pushed through due to the very
minimal confirmation of participating countries. According to an insider from
MUCP: “We bring him to Bodyshots last Sunday. Then meron daw
isang sponsor na nag invite sa kanya sa Misters. Di namin alam at ni walang
paalam o text sa amin na magpascreen sya sa Misters. Anyways, it's ok na sumali
sya sa Misters. But we have to strip him of the Mister of the Universe Philippines
title. Wait for our announcement.”
My
take on the issue: The emergence of many male pageants in our country is
actually beneficial to the conteseros.
I have the impression that male pageant candidates who jump from one side of the
fence to another (with the exception of those who are dethroned) are yet to
know the word delicadeza. Dahil sa
mga candidates na di nagpapaalam sa kanilang pinanggagalingan nagkakaroon ng unhealthy
tension between different male pageant organizations. Candidates, always ask
the blessing of the organizations where you come from, so that you when you
reach your goals, they will also share your joy. To the male pageant
organizers, you don’t own your pageant winners. Should they decide to venture
into other pageants, let them go. Remember, whether they like it or not, you
have a part of who they are and what they will be.
After
all, we only live in one industry: the male pageant industry. Whether we like
it or not, we shall always cross paths.
