It
is nice to know who among that while no Philippine delegate has won the Mister
International title, our representatives managed to make a mark in this pageant.
Let us check out our winners one by one:
2006
– Alvin Asuncion of Cavite
Ken
Escudero aka Alvin Asuncion ( a graduate Of BS Marine Transportation from Asian
Institute of Maritime Studies in Pasay City) tops the honorary list of Ginoong
Filipinas alumni, as one with most aliases - Ken Escudero, Ken Silverio, Alvien
Cano to name a few. Whatever his reasons are for acquiring a battery of
pseudonyms, only he and his manager knows. Winning Ginoong Filipinas 2006 was a
dream come true for him. In the Barong Tagalog segment he glided in the stage
like a pro creating enough steam to heat the already boiling Intramuros. And in
the swimwear competition more pyrotechnics exploded as a prelude to his proclamation.
True enough, the night was his!
After
winning Ginoong Filipinas 2006, Alvin was sent to Singapore to compete for Mister
International 2006. He was a heavy favorite, making him Mr. Photogenic and a
semifinalist . He lost to pageant giants Wissam Hanna of Lebanon and
heaven-sent Erbert Javier Delgado of Venezuela. After that brief stint in the
international pageant he went back to Philippines and started on his first film
(a gay indie) “Sikil” where he shed off his boy-next-door image and braved
sizzling love scenes. Later, he also joined the Bench Body Search but he was
not very lucky.
2007
– Ian Leonel Porlayagan of Nueva Ecija
Ian
Leonel Porlayagan is a model from San Jose, Nueva Ecija who was already a
veteran male pageant candidate when he joined the Mr. Philippines 2007. He just
competed from
the
BPCI organized Mr. World – Philippines 2007, Manhunt Search, Mr. Aura and
Ginoong Nueva Ecija.
However,
for unknown reasons, he did not compete in Mister International 2007 in
Malaysia. It was not revealed if he withdrew in the middle
of the competition or he failed to arrive in Malaysia. Interestingly, another
Filipino contestant, Mark Figueroa who was supposed to represent Guam, also
failed to arrive. Mark is the winner of Ginoong Pilipinas-USA 2007.
The
following year, he joined again Mister International Philippines. It was
revealed that he was given the second chance to compete because the local
organizers in 2007 were confronted by problems and
failed to send him to the international competition. He managed to enter the
semifinals but did not even advance into the top 3.
Even with the seemingly tragic experience, these personality searches opened a lot of doors for Ian. He appeared in fashion shows, television shows and commercials.
Winner
– Ryan Roberts of USA / Miguel Jeff Surio of Bulacan
At six feet tall, Ryan was a crowd favorite during the event and received an overwhelming applause when he gave his answer during the interview portion. He was asked: “Which one is more important: your family or your friends, why?” “Family is the most important thing, but friends are also important. To me, family first and then friends.”
But unfortunately, he did not compete in the said
pageant due to health reasons. First Runner Up Miguel Jeff
Surio competed in Mister International 2008 in Tainan, Taiwan, Republic of
China and entered the top 10. His
placement is the highest so far that the Philippines reached in Mister
International.
2009
– Michael Manansala of Pampanga
Michael
was the tallest candidate when he joined the Mister International Philippines.
At 6’2, he easily towered over his competitors. It is interesting to note that
Michael Manansala was only a replacement for candidate no. 16, Francis Soo,
whose grandmother in Davao has died.
Michael
competed in Mister International 2009 in Taichung, Taiwan, Republic of China.
He entered the top 16 and was well-applauded for his archangel national
costume.
2010
– Raphael Carlos of Marikina
In 2010, Ginoong Pilipinas Expo World – Dr. Joseph Pallera founded the
Mister Philippines Inc. They staged the Mister Philippines Pageant until 2012
and produced 3 winners. Two of his 3 winners were semifinalists in Mister
International tilt.
Raffy
was the first Atenista to win the Mister Philippines title. He was among the
few who looked comfortable during the interview portion. He said discipline and
perseverance were the most important lessons he learned by joining the
pageant.
He
competed in Mister International 2010 in Jakarta, Indonesia and entered the top
15.
2011

Pageant after Raphael Carlos in 2010. He was a teacher who graduated from the
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina.

21-year-old Gutoman is facing a lot of pressure in the competition, as two
other Filipinos before him have won in separate pageants held in Thailand that
month of November: June Macasaet recently won the "Manhunt International 2012" title
and transgender Kevin Balo was proclaimed "Miss International Queen
2012." In the end, he failed to enter the semis.
2013
– Gil Wagas of Cebu
In
the year 2013, the company that earned to right to select the Philippine
representative to Mister International landed on new organizers. The Manhunt Philippines
and the Mister International Philippines became a team in selecting our finest
male representatives in the country.
Gil Wagas, former UE Red Warriors player and
model from Lapu Lapu City, Cebu won the Mister International Philippines. This year,
it was an all-Visayan top 3. At a towering height of 6'3" and a body too
die for, Gil will carry the Philippine flag in Jakarta, Indonesia November this
