Mister Vietnam Nguyen Van Son, 21, was crowned at the finale of Mister Global 2015, which took place on Saturday evening in Bangkok, Thailand. Son garnered a cash prize; a trophy; accommodation in a city apartment/hotel suite for the duration of his reign while in Thailand; a modeling portfolio; travel opportunities representing the Mister Global Organization, and personal appearance opportunities representing sponsors and charitable organizations, according to the pageant’s Facebook page. He also won the title for “Internet Popularity” at the contest.
However, the
young man’s triumph has not been well received by cultural authorities at home.
Le Minh Tuan, of the Performing Arts Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, told a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter on Monday that Son will likely be fined between VND15 million (US$699) and VND30 million ($1,398) for joining the pageant without seeking prior consent from competent Vietnamese agencies.
His new title may not be recognized in Vietnam either, Tuan added.
In Vietnam, those who want to take part in a beauty contest in another country are required to win at least one national beauty title before being selected by the ministry to represent the country.
Do we know what Neil Perez won for Mr. International? Also, how come he is still here in the Philippines? Should he not be in Singapore by now? Is there something wrong with Mr. International Org?
ReplyDeleteJust asking...
I would venture questions addressed to Mister Global Organization:
ReplyDelete1. Are they aware that Vietnam requires all those things to join pageants abroad? If they are, why did they allow SVN to join the pageant knowing fully well that SVN may have to take on that penalty? If they are not, then that would be tantamount to negligence on their part;
2. Was SVN aware of this issue beforehand? If he was, then why did he push through in joining the pageant? If he was not, then why did his handlers or his ND not point this out? What were the motivations behind him joining even under the possible spectre of a fine?
3. There were allegations that there was no actually judging during the competition and that the winners were pre-ordained. And add to that, some said that SVN was made to win so he can cover for the possible fine that will be imposed by the Vietnamese Government. Of course these are all speculations...
At any rate, it seems that the Mister Global Organization is faced with scandal after scandal in its very young life. It would be good if Pradit finds a way to improve his organizations integrity one way or another. Moving forward, they should really make scores and scoring systems TRANSPARENT so it can be subjected to scrutiny and verification.
